Daniel Gordon is a Professor of Music at the State University of Music at Plattsburgh (USA). His association with Finland comes from his wife Irma, a native Finn. Consequently, they visit Finland frequently. Daniel has taught saxophone at the STM-leiri since 2005, when he spent an entire academic year in Finland while on sabbatical from his teaching position in the USA. He has undertaken various research projects involving Finnish music and has collaborated with several Finnish musicians, most notably Janne Ikonen, Jukka Viitasaari, and Nikke Isomöttönen. He has also organized a number of concerts of Finnish music in the USA.

Daniel is pleased to continue his “international musical exchange” every year by teaching saxophone at the STM-leiri. It is a wonderful way for him to keep in touch with Finnish music and musicians and to share musical materials from the USA. And don’t worry, he speaks Finnish!
